mind-mattersCan our minds really heal our bodies? Is it possible that faith is a crucial missing link in the healing we seek? We’ve all heard the terms, mind over matter and the placebo effect,  yet I venture to guess few of us really understand the connection and impact this can have on our health. I’ve recently been reading Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book, You Are The Placebo, and as a result, have come to more fully understand just how profound a role, even from a scientific perspective, our belief system plays in the healing process.

Why Belief Matters

There are countless references, scientific studies, and examples of people overcoming incredible odds regarding their health. There is also no shortage of cases where people have been mis-diagnosed with diseases, only to manifest the symptoms none-the-less. How can this be? Enter: The Placebo Effect. The connection between the mind and body is so profound that overlooking this truth can even mean the difference between life and death. It’s also so important, that if you’re seeking healing –on any level, it deserves and begs for your consideration right now.

You, are the Placebo

Think about it. If you are facing a gloomy prognosis and your doctor tells you there’s nothing they can do, your mind creates a set point (if you believe it) that leaves little room for healing. On the other hand, if you’ve been handed a diagnosis that allows for a high probability of cure, again, your mind remains hopeful and confident that you’ll likely overcome.  The common denominator – regardless – is your personal belief in your ability to be healed, or not. I would even hasten to say that the power your mind holds in your healing process is so important that, no matter what you’re doing and dealing with right now, beliefs trump everything!

As A Man Thinketh…

In Proverbs 23:7, we read, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Another verse, Proverbs 4:23, tells us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Jesus Himself told us that if we had even the faith of a mustard seed, we could move mountains. Consider too, that our faith, according to Jesus, is the main conduit through which our prayers are answered. This is so simplistic, yet so profound that most of us miss the significance of this aspect of our being.
